Amazon requires the main image of every listing to show the product on a pure white background (RGB 255, 255, 255). Off-white, grey, shadows from a lightbox or a visible table edge can get the image suppressed, or quietly make it look cheaper than the listings around it.
Removing the background properly is the fastest way to fix that. Once your product is cut out, you can drop it onto pure white for the main image, or onto any scene for secondary images, A+ Content modules and ads.
After you have your cut-out, use the Amazon Image Fixer to size it to Amazon's spec: a square canvas, 1600 px or more on the longest side so zoom works, and the product filling about 85% of the frame.
